Learning...

So I started tracking my calories on Monday and I am in shock. Here I thought I was eating too many points and that is why I haven't been seeing the scale move, turns out with 19 points/day I am averaging between 1100-1190 calories...I should be eating at least 1200 calories everyday. I am going to continue to track in both and make sure I am calculating correctly. I lost my first 20 lbs. following the points system to a T. I ate all APs and most of my FPs every week....when I did this I lost 2+ lbs a week, consistently. Lately I have been limiting the use of my FPs and trying to not touch my APs...all I can say is there IS a reason for these.

I am exhausted this morning. We had a send-off party for one of my longtime co-workers last night and I stayed out LATE! Luckily Derek was at home because I was supposed to watch Rosie last night and I would never had made it home in time. I had about 3.5 beers and managed to say NO to all the bar food. I made a small dinner when I got home and hit the sack. I know it's not good to eat right before bed, but I hadn't eaten much that day and I needed something to settle the buzz.

I am so ready to get today done with. I can't wait to get this holiday weekend started!! I might make it out to the State Fair, I just need to make sure I don't go there hungry...mmmm...so many good treats. Alright, I a will be checking around on everyone...I have been pretty quiet this week so I need to get back into the routine!

Just a few things on my mind...

Thank you EVERY ONE for your kind words the last couple of days. Grad school starts back up for me next Tuesday which means I am crazy busy trying to get things done at work and at home this week. I have received calls from EVERY family member of mine as well as Derek's and everyone wants DETAILS...I've got nothing! I keep telling everyone I will need time to think about what we want and then politely listen to all their "suggestions". I can already tell this is going to be a LONG engagement!!

The only things I know for sure...
1) Rosie WILL BE a flower girl, and the cutest darn one ever!!
2) I want a winter wedding
3) I don't want ANY drama!!!
So if you want details, this is what I have for you today!! I am sure things will come together quickly once the initial engagement sinks in!

I called my so called "best bud" from high school last night to tell her, or more so break the news to her. It went as I expected. I said "I'm engaged" and she replied in a not so pleasant way "WHAT? I NEVER would have expected YOU to be engaged before ME!" Maybe I'm wrong thinking this, aren't your friends supposed be excited with you about these sorts of things. Seriously, she doesn't even have a boyfriend...what is so wrong with me that I wouldn't get engaged??? ERRRR...I just about started crying, luckily my true friend was waiting for me to call and tell her how it went, she pointed out what I already knew. I'm over it today, kind of.

On another end, yesterday was WI, I was the same old, same old 127. I am back on track though and will hopefully get these last pesty pounds off by Halloween (seems achievable)!

NSV for me...I LOVED myself in almost all the 3-day pictures including the one I am wearing a spandex shirt in. I don't have a flat stomach, but I wasn't uncomfortable AT ALL! Also, I didn't look in a mirror once that whole weekend. I had one with me, but I didn't ever feel like I needed it. That is HUGE for me!

A couple goals for this week:
1) Follow Wendie
2) Drink 70 oz. of H20 every day
3) Track calories on spark people
4) get some new types of foods in (especially breakfast)
5) At least 1 AP everyday

The 3-Day (prepare yourself, it's long!)

Friday - The three of us woke up well before 5 to get dressed and ready to take off. It was still dark when we got to opening ceremonies (above, I am on the far right). We stretched and stood around for a while and the ceremonies began. Within minutes they had all three of us doing everything we could to hold back our tears. 8 survivors stood in an empty circle, holding hands to represent those who where not with us, or who had gone before us. As the first groups of people began to walk balloons with names of loved ones where release into the air. It was all very touching. We got off on our journey towards the end of the group at about 7 a.m.
The first pit stop (bathrooms, water, snacks) came and went and before we knew it we made it to lunch, over 10 miles done. All three of us felt good, we changed socks, rested a bit and stretched out our muscles.
The next "landmark" was a cheering station a few miles out. I wasn't sure what to expect, but as we approached I was completely shocked. Hundreds of people stood with signs, water, Popsicles, candy and cheered as we walked by. Many of the people where family members of the walkers, but also several people who were touched by breast cancer and just wanted to come out and say "thank you for walking". Every time we went through a cheering station, I held back a tear or two.
I was anxious to get to the end of our route on Friday, Rosie, my dad and my sister would be waiting there to cheer us on for the day. It was great seeing them!
When we finally got back to camp we had to find our duffel bags and set up camp. We were among the first 1,000 walkers to get in that day, so the sea of pink tents had just started to form. Once the tents were set up and our tennis shoes were off, it was time to shower. I was surprised at how nice the mobile showers were. Large semi trailers were set up all over camp and inside each was a changing bench and several shower stalls. Don't get me wrong I missed my clean private shower at home, but hey, the water was warm and it felt great to shower off.
Each night we had a hot dinner served in the food tent. Dinner was huge and actually tasted somewhat good. I think we were all starving from the long walk each day.
Lights out at 9 p.m. every night. I was exhausted and happy to get some shut eye. It was noisy though, the tents were paper thin and I could hear every little sneeze, cough and snore. The first night sleeping on the ground was rough, I woke up every 20-30 minutes, needing to adjust because my hip was digging into the hard ground. I also didn't dress warm enough and around 12:00 woke up shivering so hard I almost started to cry. We learned A LOT that night!!
Saturday - We woke up by 4:30 am on Saturday and since camp was loud we headed to the food tent for a warm breakfast. Knowing today would be the longest mileage, we got ready and took off early. The first half of the day was ALL hills. It was beautiful though, we went through several State trails and parks and followed the Mississippi for several miles. The hour before lunch was a long one and it seemed like it would never come.
Lunch was served down by the river, we took time eating, stretched and changed our socks. No blisters yet!! We hit our favorite pit stop on Saturday "Boobs Anatomy" and got a picture with McDreamy himself (I love this pic, I'm on the far right again)!!!
The next stop would be at a cheering station where my friends Mom and grandparents where waiting. They were so kind and even brought us some Advil PM for sleeping. Saturday was a long day, we got back to camp early and the pain seemed unreal. The thought of getting up and doing it all over was scary. We laid low though, played some cards and just enjoyed the warm afternoon/evening.
Sunday - A.K.A. The 3rd Day!!! Having actually slept some (thanks to Grandmas Advil PM) we woke up around 5 am and headed to breakfast. We took our time this morning, we didn't want to get to the holding area and have to wait for EVER for the rest of the walkers to get in. We took down or "unpopped" our tents, packed up our luggage and headed out around 7 am. I felt great when we took off on Sunday, my feet hurt a little but nothing too bad. By mid-morning my foot was bothering me and I could tell a blister was forming. We stopped at the second pit stop and I had my blister "taken care of". I was ready to go again.

Sunday was a beautiful but hilly walk. We made our way up Capital Hill in St. Paul (I'm on the Left this time!) and looked over the city. By lunch time my knee was barely holding up. Most of the days route was over uneven city sidewalks and the unevenness was taken a toll on my bad knee. Luckily there was a trainer who could take time to adjust and look over my knee. After he adjusted it, I felt great...barely any pain...so, we took off without getting it taped up. Can you say MISTAKE???

Within only a few miles my knee was cramping up and pain was shooting up my leg. One of the other girls in my group had a knee brace and since her knee was feeling good, she took it off and handed it to me. I am almost positive I wouldn't have made it without that brace. By this time we only had about 6 miles left, but it was up to the river and over to Minneapolis for Closing Ceremonies.

As we got close Derek kept text messaging me asking where we where. We took it pretty slow though, everyone was getting pretty worn out. The crew members and sidewalk cheering really got us to keep moving though and we made it over the river. I text messaged Derek at about 1 mile from the finish, it was finally within reach!

As we turned into the finish I saw Derek dart out from the crowds. He was dressed really nice and had a bouquet of flowers. I leaned over to hug him and kept going. He stopped me, got down on one knee and proposed. I really didn't know what he was doing though and I was so tired that all I could think is "I need to get to that last scan station". I managed to nod yes, hug all the family and move on to the finish. My fingers were so swollen that the ring barely fit. All I can remember is everyone else being really excited and I was just thinking about getting out of there and laying down in my pillow-top mattress!!!

Closing Ceremonies were amazing. Actually just finishing (I'm on the left) was AWESOME!

And of course I couldn't end this LONG post without one of these...my favorite cheerleader!!

I Said Yes!

Well I made it to the finish line, all 60 miles! Just as I crossed the final leg Derek jumped out of the crowd and got down on one knee. I was so tired and anxious to get to the final scan that I tried to keep walking (I didn't know what he was doing). It finally set in and I said "yes" (well I think I did). He tried to get the ring on my finger but since it was so swollen it only got to about my knuckle. It was a great finish to a great weekend.

I am in a lot of pain still, new parts of my body hurt everyday. I am trying to take it easy and get my muscles rested. I'm really not in as much pain as I thought I might be. I made it through the sixty mile with just one small blister on the third day. My knee did give me a lot of troubles but with some adjustments and a borrowed knee brace I made it through. I have made an appointment to get in and have it looked at just to be safe. So many people have asked me "would you do it again"...I look back and think about my experience and know I WILL DO THIS AGAIN. We were part of a group of about 2,800 people who raised over 5.6 Million dollars because "everyone deserves a lifetime".

I don't have the pictures developed yet, but I will get them together and update a little more tomorrow. For now I am off to get some work done and take a few Ibuprofen. Have a great OP day everyone!!

Becuase Everyone Deserves a Lifetime.

I have a lot on my mind today, I woke up thinking about my grandfather and have been doing everything I can to hold myself together this morning. I miss him so much, I know he is still in my heart, but some days it doesn't feel like enough. I lost my grandfather to cancer this past February, as well as my Uncle in November and tomorrow I will begin a journey in their honor. I can't help but think back to the final days, visiting my grandfather and feeling his cold but gentle hand and knowing that when I said goodbye it was the last time he would be there with my physically. I've never told anyone this IRL, mostly because it is just to hard to talk about still but that day when I was standing over his bed I said "Hi Bon-Papa, it's Melissa" I did everything I could to hold back my tears for my grandmothers sake. He was asleep and hadn't spoken or moved much for the past couple days, but when I leaned over him, I could see him try to open his eyes, and knew you wanted to respond. I told him I loved him and kissed him goodbye. I excused myself from the room and proceeded to breakdown as I walked out of the nursing home.
It was two days later that my Dad made the call to my sister at 6:30 a.m., he had passed early that morning. It didn't seem real, how could someone just be gone. I've lost loved ones before, my Uncle passed away in November, but it was still a new feeling. I had a rough couple of years in high school. I dealt with eating disorders, attempted suicide and nearly got kicked out of the preparatory high school my entire family had attended. Through it all there were three people who truly supported me through all the decisions I made; my Dad, my Grandfather and my sister. These three people never judged me or made me feel like a failure, and they knew EVERYTHING. I still remember my grandfather telling me that no matter what, he loved me and was proud of me. I remember him telling me how beautiful I was and how special I was EVERY time he saw me, he always made me feel like a princess. I have attributed my success with WW to him, it is my honest belief that he wants me to see myself the way he has always seen me, beautiful. I'm working at it!
I know that this journey is going to be emotional for me, I know that I will feel my grandfather and my Uncles presence over the next three days. Nothing will bring them back, but I am walking in hopes that someday someone will not have to fear losing a loved one from cancer, because, truly "Everyone deserves a lifetime".
Now I am speaking to all of my virtual supporters and friends, please, please, please if there is one thing you do for me...learn your family history, talk about health, get checked, because cancer is completely treatable. My dear cousin once said "Every American has the potential to get cancer, and the potential to cure it."
Alright, I need to get my head cleared and get finished up at work. Thank you everyone for your support, it means so much to me. Remember to wear pink this weekend! I'll be thinking about each of you and back on Sunday to update on the walk!

{{{{{HUGS}}}}} to you ALL!

Never too old for sleepovers...

That's right, I had a sleepover last night, popcorn, movies and everything. Who was so blessed to share in this experience...Rosie of course!!! My sister called and asked me if I could watch Rosie after daycare yesterday, she had an appointment and has had a bad headcold. I was thrilled of course and decided I would just keep her all to myself all night. Rosie just cracks me up, she thinks everything I do is funny and that just makes time fly by. We slept pretty good last night, woke up once when I put her in her crib but fell asleep in just a couple minutes. My Dad was watching her today so I didn't have to do much to get her ready this morning. The best part of the morning was pulling her out of her crib, she didn't open her eyes, just rolled into a tight ball in my arms and wrapped her arm around mine. I didn't want to wake her up but needed to get to work. I will pick her up from daycare again on Thursday to get a good luck hug and kiss for the walk. It also sounds like we will walk right by my parents house on Friday so Rosie and the family will wait for us to walk by and cheer!! I can't wait to see her face again.

I have a ton of work to get done before tomorrow so I will work late tonight and then go home and pack. Since I have the walk this WW week I have decided not to follow any plan or really track since I need to carb load and focus on staying healthy. My Moms birthday is on Friday so my sister and I decided we would take her out to Olive Garden for lunch tomorrow. I haven't been there forever but I will get plenty of carbs there!! Derek is planning dinner for tonight and then tomorrow the three walkers will go for dinner and get to bed early!!

I'm exhausted and I have been trying to get this post up for about 4 hours now so I am going to cut it short.

Hope everyone has an AWESOME OP Day!

Changing plans.

I am a planner, I live by that little day planner that sits neatly to my right all day long at work and conveniently slips into my purse to accompany me while I am away from the office. This calender is in ways similar to the Weight Watchen Blog for Roni , should it ever be lost I would seriously cry, some might say I would go MAD! Even though most of the information I keep in there is useless to anyone else, it talks novels to me. Small symbols I have used for years tell me when to work out, when to WI, birthdays, anniversaries, memories and future responsibilities. I think my obsession with planning started while I was a freshman in college. This is the year I sold my time to Mary Kay, yes I wanted to get me one of those pink Cadillacs! Long story short the one great thing I learned from my MK experience was that planning and goal setting was key to success. Every night I wrote down 6 things I needed to accomplish the next day as well as planned my day (with colors!) including study time, personal time, MK time, work time, etc... It was a scary but very organized time in my life. Although I am not quite as dependant on my day planner these days it is still filled with notes, lists, goals, dates, etc...

So why you ask am I telling you about this?!? Well, if I flip back to Monday, August 20th, 2007 I see several things, the number 4 (countdown to the big walk) a small stick figure with the number 6 (meaning run 6 miles), the number 24 with a star around it (the number of points I had planned for the day), several appointments during the day and 7:10 - Twins Game!! (written in green to represent personal time). I'm getting to my point, which is NONE of this HAPPENED! Yep, my entire day was a wash yesterday. I ended up getting slammed with a huge change order first thing in the morning which kept me from making any of the meetings during the day. I got home late with a headache and threw on my game wear. Derek wasn't home so I called to find out he was picking his sister up and she was running late. Knowing we were trying to make a 7:10 game across town, she NEEDED him to drive her to pick up her prescription at 6:30 making them get back to my house at 7. I had planned on making dinner at the house and that was out of the question since we would be late already. Then she told me her PLAN "yea, I decided that instead of the Twins game you guys should bring me to REI to get a sleeping bag and we should go OUT for dinner"...WHAT??? Who asked you? I have my night planned out and I am already off of my schedule! Since I feel obligated to be nice, I said whatever and we did exactly what she wanted. Now, I am not usually the type that gets upset about changing plans (okay, yes, yes I am) but seriously, we had $20 tickets to a game and I had rushed out of work to get home in time to cook her dinner and get to the game.

Argg...I was a little upset last night. Also, since I had planned on making dinner at home I had left just enough points for my dinner, I ate over my points and didn't get my run in. Luckily I have been tracking and according to my log I still have 13 FPs left after last night and I don't think that is horrible.

So tomorrow is WI so today is my final day to accomplish my goals, here they are:
* Follow the Wendie plan for a second week. Day 6, about 3 points over.
* Eat 5 servings fruit and veggies EVERYDAY! I ate about 10 servings!
* Drink 100 oz. of water daily. I probably just barely got them, I fell asleep before finishing the last glass that would bring me to 106.
* Get in at least 1 activity point everyday. Well, I didn't get my workout in but I did get up and get out, so it was better then just sitting at home on my butt!
* Get in at least 4 long walks or runs (6-12 miles). 3 walks down. I need to get number 4 in tonight!
* Use any APs earned above 4 in a day.

Forgot one thing...

I have been getting on the scale every morning this week. I am not sure what is going on but I have had over a .5 loss everyday so far. I am down 2.6 lbs. since last Wednesdays WI. Hopefully I can hold this until WI this week!! I HEART Wendie!!!!

4 Days and counting!

First thing I did when I got to work this morning was check the 7 day forecast...77 and partly cloudy Friday-Sunday!! Keep your fingers crossed and pray for this to stay true!! We have had rain the last 2 days and it's chilly, I can't imagine three days of walking in the rain though.

My training has really turned a new page, I am in the final stretch as Derek calls it. Friday night flew by, I did manage to get a long walk in though. Saturday was Moms 50th birthday party. I was so busy all day that I somehow managed to just pick at the foods. I still counted each bite modestly. Also got a long walk in that morning before heading to my parents to set up.

Sunday was a long day. Something didn't sit well with Derek at the party and he got sick early Sunday morning...let's just say, he didn't make it to the bathroom. I ended up having to get the steam vac and spend almost 2 hours working on the carpet. I can't even see it anymore, he is SO LUCKY!!! We were supposed to go to the Twins game but since Derek wasn't feeling great, I decided I would just stay home and get on the treadmill, 8 mile run!!! I got a bunch of stuff done around the house and took it easy.

Here are my goals for the week:
* Follow the Wendie plan for a second week. Days 3, 4 and 5 DONE!
* Eat 5 servings fruit and veggies EVERYDAY! Friday was great, Saturday and Sunday I got them in, just not as easy.
* Drink 100 oz. of water daily. Friday I got well over 100 oz. in. Saturday and Sunday I hate to say I barely drank anything, hopefully I get back into routine without bloating.
* Get in at least 1 activity point everyday. WOOHOO!! I got over 4 each day!
* Get in at least 4 long walks or runs (6-12 miles). 3 walks down, I have my fourth planned tonight!
* Use any APs earned above 4 in a day. Although I didn't track them, I definitely used my extra APs in BLTs!

Sundays Menu:

D - Baked Chicken and Asparagus (4)
D - Roasted New Potatoes (3)

A week away!!!!

YEP! My 60 mile journey is exactly 1 week away from today!! I am getting so anxious, I can't explain the feelings going through me. This morning I went to pick up the t-shirts I had printed for us and they look awesome. I will post pictures for sure! This weekend Derek's step-father will be helping to design my dedication banner. This banner will represent the motivation for my walk, it means a lot that he is taking the time to help illustrate all of these things. I will try to scan and post this when it is complete! I am a little nervous for packing and camping. There are so many required items we need to bring but our bags need to be under 35 lbs. I think I might practice pack this weekend! As for the camping, since there are three of us in our team and only 2 people allowed per tent, I will be sharing a tent with a stranger. I am so nervous about this, seriously, I am one of those people that freaks out in large crowds, I hate being touched by people I don't know and I hate making small talk. I know this is a poor attitude but I can't help it, I really just like my space. Hopefully whoever is sharing a tent with me will respect this Barbies Bubble!!

Okay so yesterday was a blast. I forgot how much I love golfing. I also forgot how long it can take to finish 18 holes...seriously 6 hours after the first swing and I was ready to be done. Since it was a sponsored tournament, we took carts. I wanted to get the most out of this activity though so I titled myself "ball retriever" I figured the extra walking and bending would get me a few APs! If I calculate this activity as low moderation for 5.5 hours I earned 10 APs! Pretty good! I also tried plugging everything in at SP and came up with the same thing. I tried to be pretty good during the day but honestly the choices were slim.

I have to catch up on everything I missed yesterday, hope everyone has a great OP day, I'll be checking up on everyone!

Here are my goals for the week:
* Follow the Wendie plan for a second week. Day 2 Done
* Eat 5 servings fruit and veggies EVERYDAY! I Probably only got 3-4 in but I will make up for it!
* Drink 100 oz. of water daily. At least, man they need to invest in more toilets at that golf course!
* Get in at least 1 activity point everyday. 10 APs earned playing golf
* Get in at least 4 long walks or runs (6-12 miles).
* Use any APs earned above 4 in a day. 10 points earned and 6 used!

Menu:
B - Grapes (1)
B - Yogurt (1)

A new week!

I was so happy my WW week was starting fresh yesterday, I really felt like I needed the goals I set and a clean slate (or plate, whatever). I stayed focused all day, actually I kept busy and that meant I didn't have time to think about food. I woke up this morning to update you all and I was shocked when I saw all the comments waiting to be approved. Seriously, you are all so great! It really means a lot to know you are out there and watching my back! Many of you agreed I need to start using more APs. I am definitely going to track these better and use any APs over 4 I earn in the day. Since my walk is in 8 days I am less concerned with a loss and more concerned with being nutritionally ready for this walk!
On another note, I was doing some thinking after my blog yesterday and realized that if Flow is on the way there is a VERY good chance she could visit during my walk. I usually get my cramps and cravings the week prior (this week) and the actual visit comes the following Wed. I have never done this before so if any of you have and have advice, PLEASE comment!! I am thinking of stretching my month out, I think I can just start a new pack of pills on Sunday and skip the WEEK. I am not sure if this would make my PMS a week longer or what. I wish I would have thought about this sooner, I hate playing with meds. Any ideas???
This barbie is playing golf today, I am so excited. I have been a closet golfer since I was young but none of my friends enjoy it so I don't get to play much anymore. A couple weeks ago I was asked by my company to represent us in a golf tournament supporting Women Contractors...this really hit home for me so I agreed! I am not at all nervous for the actual golfing, but we are being served lunch and dinner at this thing and that scares me A LOT. Hopefully I can just watch the portions and make some healthy choices, we will see. I won't be around this afternoon but will be checking up on everyone tonight.

Here are my goals for the week:
* Follow the Wendie plan for a second week. (my high point day will fall on Saturday, perfect for the party) Day one Done
* Eat 5 servings fruit and veggies EVERYDAY! I got at least 6 in!
* Drink 100 oz. of water daily. stopped counting at 105 oz.
* Get in at least 1 activity point everyday. Practice round of golf w/sister.
* Get in at least 4 long walks or runs (6-12 miles).
* Use any APs earned above 4 in a day. 4 points earned (walking, carrying clubs, golfing) none used.

Last but not least, the menu:

B - 2 small clementines (1)
B - Yogurt (1)
B - Fiber One (0)
L - Carrots (0)
L - Peach (1)
L - Pudding (1)
L - Lasagna Bolognese (5)
S - Beef Stick (3)
D - Southwest Grilled Chicken Salad (6)
D - 1 slice light whole wheat bread (0)
S - Popcorn shared with my Derek (2)

I've got just THREE letters for you...

P.M.S.!!! That's me, a total wreck over here. I got on my scale this morning and that number didn't budge, my vacation weight is hanging on, maybe it doesn't want the vacation to be over...I dunno! I weighed myself over the weekend and I was down, over 2 lbs...I was really counting on seeing that this morning. Anyways this was my first attempt at Wendie, it went okay but it was hard to get my high day in. I did a little math this morning and this is what I have come up with, last week I ate a total of 159 points (well at least that I tracked). I am allotted a total of 168 every week (daily + flex). This means I ate the majority of my flex points (all but 9) but I also tracked getting over 20 APs in this week, none of which I technically used. When I was heavier this kind of week would have resulted in a HUGE loss, what am I doing wrong. Am I eating too much? Not enough? I need your advice!!

Well, I was really satisfied with my menus early this week but I slipped the last 2 days, I'm not pleased with myself. We had a safety lunch at the jobsite yesterday, I ordered something that the guys would enjoy but that I thought I could still fit into my day. Box lunches with turkey or ham sandwiches, carrots, kettle chips, and a dessert. I did great at first, I ate my turkey sandwich and carrots and put the chips and rice bar back in the box to take home. I should have thrown them out! By 2 I was hungry again, so I opened the chips, then by 4 I somehow finished the bar...oops! Everything would have worked out fine, I still had 5 points left for the day. As I was leaving work for the day I noticed that there were about 12 boxes leftover still in the conference area. I was simply planning on moving them to the fridge so they wouldn't spoil but then I thought of my Derek, he loves ham sandwiches so I grabbed two boxes and figured we would have them for dinner.

Again, I planned this out in my head, I would eat half of the sandwich, the carrots and some veggies from the house. I did this and was stuffed. It was a really nice night out so we went for a run, I think it was about 5-6 miles. When we got back I saw the rice krispie bar I left sitting on the counter for Derek to pack in his lunch...mmmm....it seriously was calling out "Matty, come eat me, you need some energy, come eat me" ... I slipped, ate the whole damn thing! I was so mad that I blew up at Derek who was patiently trying to fix my bed which my fat barbie ass broke!!! Here I am almost in tears stuffing my mouth with a rice bar and shaking my little finger at him. He is so patient and just let me do my thing.

So I need to set up some goals for this next week, it's going to be a tough one. This Saturday my sister and I are throwing a surprise 50Th B-Day party for our Mom. I planned the menu so it is mostly healthy, I will eat a good lunch so I am less likely to snack. My 60 mile walk is exactly 9 days away. By this time next week I will need to be getting my body nutritionally ready for this walk. I wrote about this about a week ago, I will need to get the carbs up so that I have plenty of energy.

Here are my goals for the week:
* Follow the Wendie plan for a second week. (my high point day will fall on Saturday, perfect for the party)
* Eat 5 servings fruit and veggies EVERYDAY!
* Drink 100 oz. of water daily.
* Get in at least 1 activity point everyday.
* Get in at least 4 long walks or runs (6-12 miles).
* Use any APs earned above 4 in a day.

Finally, my menu...icky:

B - Yogurt (1)
B - Fiber One (0)
S - Haystack (1)
L - Turkey Sandwich (6)

Small fire and a broken bed!

I had an interesting Monday. I stayed OP during most of the day but had to rush home early to get to the dentist about an hour away (it usually wouldn't take this long but with the Bridge down traffic is crazy). I knew I wasn't going to be able to make dinner until late so I grabbed a couple oreos (BAD Matty, VERY BAD). My appointment started late and lasted about an hour, I am happy to have this first one out of the way though. I have to have some work done on my teeth because I grind them in my sleep and they want to get them "pretty" before I start wearing a retainer at night.

We got back home around 6:30 and I started dinner right away. I browned a small round steak in the pan and added some frozen veggies and szechaun sauce. It was great and very filling. Derek ran out to fill the car up with gas and get some cash for the week and I decided to make some Haystacks. Apparently I had something wrong, I tried making it like Swizzle with my Better'n Peanut Butter and chocolate chips. I threw them in the microwave and patiently waited, stirred them after 30 seconds and threw them back in...waited and then BOOM, a small explosion and my PB was on fire!!!! I don't know what happened, nothing is wrong with my microwave, it was the PB that started on fire (a little scary). Anyways Derek of course walks in before I had time to get the smell or mess cleaned out, fortunately he found it hilarious. While he was out he decided to pick us both up ice cream from McDs, I didn't have the points but it was very thoughtful of him. I ate most of it because I was pissed about the fire.

Mondays are USUALLY one of my favorite nights because I TiVo Army Wives and A Side Order of Life on Sunday and we always watch them in bed on Monday. I was so excited so I threw on my comfys, grabbed my ice cream and litterally JUMPED onto the bed. Apparently I had really bad luck or something yesterday because as I jumped onto the bed part of the frame ripped completely out and the entire mattress fell. I seriously almost started to cry, all I could say is "am I really that Fat???". Again, Derek found my misfortune to be hilarious and got me to laugh it off. We ended up sleeping on the broken bed anyways! Ahhh...thank goodness it's a new day!

Okay, let me clarify a couple things

1. Thanks for the worry Candace, no I am not prego :) I am currently eating about 3 points in energy carbs/day. Running 10 miles in 100 degree humid weather with low carb counts is stupid, and there is no question I would be worn out. As for the little potty issue on Sunday, I drank almost 25 oz of water right before we went out and didn't bother to use the bathroom. I knew I had to go but figured I would be fine until we got home...I learned a couple lessons this weekend. I am going to start including both carbs and protein in each of my 3 main meals everyday starting on Wednesday. This should give me a the energy I was missing this past weekend.

2. As for the "naughty barbie" thing...all I can say to your comment Amanda is I was definitely not supposed to find this surprise. Stupid boy for trying to hide it in a drawer I put laundry away in every week! I hope that the surprise doesn't stay secret too long because I have been waiting for this surprise for a while now! Does that help?!? Oh, and I didn't see the actual surprise, just the box...I am having troubles not taking a closer peek but don't want to ruin everything!!!

A couple updates...

Friday finished off well. I went for a 4 mile run after work and had a small slice of pizza and a large salad for dinner. I didn't have a ton of energy so we ended up staying in and watching a movie.
Saturday morning I woke up early and met up with two of my girlfriends for a 10 mile run. I was dying by the end and all I wanted to do was get my sneakers off and lay up in bed. When I finally did get home Derek was playing video games, I begged for a little foot massage but he was anxious to get out of the house to do something. I showered and got ready. We ended up going to Panera Bread for a sandwich and walking around the mall a bit (my legs felt like the weighed about 100 lbs. so I didn't last long). Derek dropped me off at home so I could nap and woke me up at about 4:30 so we could go to my Aunts house to baby-sit. Somehow I got the energy to lug a 6 and 2 year-old to the park for an hour, get them to take baths and managed to have them in bed before 9. I cannot tell you how glad I was when they went down, I was exhausted.
Sunday was a lazy day. My Aunt got home at about 1:30 am so we didn't get to bed until after 2. It was a little after 11 before we were up and dressed for the day. We went grocery shopping, I took care of some work from home, cleaned up the house, took an afternoon nap and made dinner. Meals were almost a chore for me this weekend. Nothing sounded "good" to me and I wanted to splurge A LOT. I stayed within my points though, had a little problem with the Oreos Derek bought (never again). We decided at about 7:30 to go out for a run, we headed a new way and must have been about 2.5 miles away from the house when I realized I had to go! I thought I was going to wet my pants. I started to really push myself and speed up but it made things worse. We finally took a short cut through some streets and got to a gas station. I was seriously holding myself at this point...GO FIGURE...out of order!!! I wasn't going to make it home so I ran into the woods behind the gas station and relieved myself. I have never had to go so badly on a run before. I still haven't heard the last of it from Derek, so funny!
Anyways, that gets you to today. My legs are feeling okay, I may have pushed my knee a little hard but it isn't too bad. Derek is worried about my eating habits while training these next couple of weeks. I have been really low on energy, to the point I am taking 1-2 naps EVERY day. I don't take naps so this is a little strange for me. While I was studying for my undergraduate I had Mononucleosis twice and Derek wants me to get checked again. With the stress from work and training he has noticed a big difference in my energy levels. I honestly don't feel like I did when I had Mono so I don't think that is the problem. I am able to get myself out of bed in the mornings and I am getting out of the house (a little). I may call the doctor today and get checked out.
I think that catches you up for the weekend. Not much going on here. I am alone at work this week so I am hoping nothing too exciting comes up!! Have a great day!

Duh!

I just realized I didn't explain my title earlier...and honestly, I don't have time now. Long story short...I found something I wasn't supposed to while cleaning the house last night. Nothing bad, nothing gross...actually something really good. Later!

Just Call Me Naughty Barbie!

What a great day yesterday, really it just kind of flew by. My second day on Wendie and I once again hit my mark (20 points). I actually may have come up at 19 but I didn't measure my servings great so I'm sure it evened out. I got in 100 oz. of water and tons of fruits and veggies. I also have a small NSV...I made a silent goal to myself to limit my soda intake to 2/day, I haven't even come close to 2/day. With all the water I am chugging down and how full I have felt, soda just isn't appealing. Yaahoo!!

I spent a good hour talking with my girl-friend again last night. Her Dad woke up from the surgery and the x-ray and fluid test went really well. The doctors are VERY pleased with the surgery. Her Uncle, who donated the kidney, was already up and walking...managed to visit Jim even to see how the new kidney was functioning. (I almost balled just hearing the story)...ahh. It is a miracle what they can do, yesterday morning the two brother went to the hospital and by noon one was missing a kidney and the other had it in them!

Ewww...I wanted to ask everyone out there...does anyone shop at outlets? I am looking for Coach outlet in particular. I have searched all of the Coach outlets in MN, WI, ND, SD and cannot find what I NEED! If you are nearby one and have a chance to swing in, let me know.

I am posting early today because I have Owner meeting this afternoon, hopefully my clients don't have any bright ideas about turtle hardhats! I will be checking in when I can so keep me in the loop!

The menu for yesterday went like this:

B - Yogurt (1)
B - Fiber One (0)
B - Peach (1)
L - Carrots (0)
L - Pudding (1)
L - LC Panini (6)
S - Clementine (1)
D - Summer Vegetable Corn Chowder (yes, I cooked) (4)
D - Light Toast (1)
S - Roni's No Ice Cream Banana Split (4) I shared with Derek so it wasn't the full points
S - BLTs (1)

Good news and prayer request...

My girl-friend just called, her Dad came out of surgery a little while ago and everything went "as planned". He still needs a few x-rays to make sure the kidney has blood flowing through and they will take this in an hour or so when he comes to. No visitors are allowed for a couple hours still, but she sounded like she was in high spirits.
The kidney donor (my friends uncle) is also doing well and they have already been in to see him. Thank you for all of your thought and prayers, please continue to keep them in your thoughts as this will be a very critical and long recovery.
Je vous aime!

I caved...

I couldn't take it anymore and I caved and took an all natural laxative yesterday. I try really hard not to take these laxatives (my doctor prescribed them for me) because when I do take them my body becomes dependant on them and I continue to have problems unless I take them...arghhh! Well, it was relief, I woke up about 3 am and spent the next hour in the bathroom. I definitely think this is why the water wasn't going down well. If you don't like to read about Pannus' then skip to my next paragraph...the reason I caved was not do to pain or being severally uncomfortable, rather it was because I saw something. Okay, so I am in the bathroom at work and I look down at my stomach and I see a dark line from my belly-button all the way down. I know I have stretch marks but they are all white and I have never seen this dark reddish/brown line before. I freak out and do a little "Google research"...nothing. I go home and immediately pull Derek away from his movie to ask him if he has ever seen this...he looked at it, he looked up and says "that is the weirdest thing I have ever seen"...great, now I feel like a creature or something. I went back and forth on calling the doctor, but what would I say? I did a little more research online and finally came across a journal that talked about cellulite discoloring when your body is overfilled with fluids...BS, right? That is what I thought but it was there all the way up until 3 in the morning when I went into the bathroom and it was completely gone when I got ready this morning! Strangest thing that ever happened to me. Derek now thinks he can tell when I "need to go" by looking at this line on my stomach, I hope it never comes back!

Alright so yesterday was an interesting day to say the least. I was crazy busy at work, but managed to do a little research. Steph got me started thinking about this Wendie plan, which I have heard about and thought about trying for a while. I did my little research on it and essentially it is the same as the Flex plan only it splits up your flex points over the week for you. I decided I would try it since I have troubles staying under my 18-19 points everyday. Yesterday was my first day with 25 points, I hit it perfectly. Today is 20 points, I have my breakfast, snacks, lunch and dinner planned out with one extra point available to play with. I brought 4 of my 5 veggie/fruit servings with me to work and have another 2 servings planned into dinner. I am hoping this little change in my plan will get me excited again and I will see some results again. I guess I am "tricking" my body...heehee, I kind of feel like Colette, tricking the food world!

Okay so back to life again, last night between the line and the laxatives we also came home to an AC that isn't working. Heat doesn't really bother me, but humidity kills me (and my hair BTW). The thermostat read 94 degrees...eek, my poor kitty was sprawled out on the tile floor. I had good intentions of running on the treadmill and used the AC as a bit of an excuse not too. I actually had a ton of stuff to get done so all and all it was probably a fair trade. The good news is, Derek is a handy and brilliant man and he fixed whatever was wrong, while I ran my errands in the AC retail shops! I found a really stylish waist pack with pink water bottle to carry on my walk as well as socks with pink ribbons on them and a fuchsia pink sports bra. I am ready for this thing, well at least I have the right clothes! We have t-shirts being printed for the 3 of us, I will for sure take pictures and post them after the walk. I am getting really excited if you can't tell by last couple of posts!!

Okay, last thing. One of my best friends Dad is having a kidney transplant today. He is young and healthy and the doctors have said he is a prime candidate. If you have a spare minute say a prayer for his surgery and recovery. I remember when my Dad had his surgery to have his cancer removed and how scary it was for me. I know how she probably feels and I am here for her.

Alright, enough ramblings from me, here's the menu:

B - Yogurt (1)
B - Fiber One (0)
S - Clementine (1)
L - Sub (7)
L - Sun Chips (3)
S - String Cheese (2)

Chunky Dunk

Well, vacation is officially over and my WW week starts over today. WI was okay, I was up 1 lb. from vacation but something is weird with my body right now. I have upped my water intake from about 60 oz. a day to over 100 oz a day and my stomach feels like a big water balloon. It is hard for me to sit comfortably and I wake up about 5 times a night from the stomach ache. I am hoping it is just adjusting and will deflate soon! I am retaining water in my knee again, darn thing just doesn't like me running on it and I am severely constipated (like 4 days, sorry TMI). I think I need to make an appointment with the doctor but they always say the same thing. Whatever the heck is going on needs to get fixed soon, I am not going to walk 60 miles in two weeks feeling like water balloon barbie.

On that note, my walk is two weeks from this Friday!!! Can you believe it? I can't. I think I am fairly ready though, we sent our shirts in to be printed yesterday and we have two 13 mile walks this weekend for training. I talked with my dietitian yesterday afternoon about getting ready and she suggested taking it easy the week before the walk food wise. She wants me eating lean protein with each meal and "healthy carbs" at least four times a day. I am going to keep my water intake at about 100-120 oz/day (assuming the bloating goes away here). I have exactly 2 weeks left for training (giving myself two days of rest before the walk). I am planning on getting approx. 100 miles of walking/running in in that time (eek!). This is where I need all my great friends out there to help me!!! I need you to pray, hope, think NICE weather for us here in MN August 24-26!! I will remind you several times...regardless, I will be walking and camping to support Breast Cancer for 3 days and 2 nights but beautiful weather would make it so much better ;)

My title...the other day Tina was talking about skinny dipping and it reminded me of my grandma. Before you start getting the wrong idea, I have never been skinny dipping and I have no idea if my grandma has. My grandparents and my parents live on a lake (they are neighbors) and my grandparents have this old wood sign on the retaining wall by the beach that says "We don't skinny dip, we chunky dunk" ... as a small kid I never understood the sign but was convinced (thanks Grandma) that is had to do with donuts. Just made me laugh, darn kids! I saw the sign last night when we went swimming at the lake and felt like sharing the story with all of you!

Yesterday wasn't great food wise, i went over my points by 3...darn Ice Cream...I should have just gone to bed but sometimes it helps with my stomach issue so I thought I would give it a try. Luckily it was the last one so I shouldn't be tempted the rest of the week. I still have intentions of updating everyone on my little vacation, although it would be really late...we'll see.

Here is my menu from yesterday...

B - Yogurt (1)
B - Fiber One (0)
B - Peach (1)
S - Grapes (1)
L - L.C. Hamburger Pasta (5)
L - Carrots (0)
L - Pudding (1)

My problems can't keep up with me...

Have you ever been so busy that you forget about all the problems you are having? Ever since I have been home on Sunday I have been non-stop...I'm not sure with what because I swear if you saw my inbox you would think I was still on vacation! Anyways, I have been so busy that I kind of forgot about all the problems I am having with my house and with work. It's nice not to think about them but at the same time the problems aren't going to just go away on there own.
I had a long conversation with the Project Manager I work with on my project and I know that i need to do something, I just hate confronting problems. I made a mini goal to schedule lunch with my mentor here at work someday this week or next week to talk over what is going on!

On a better note, we went running last night...it was great. We planned to run about a mile and ended up running 2 because I wanted to look at a home that is up for sale down the street. I certainly cannot afford to move right now but the thought of just getting out of the situation I am in with mine is sure pretty. When we got home again I started unpacking more boxes from the reconstruction and realized I am going to have to clean EVERYTHING...every piece of clothing, every towel, everything is covered in sawdust. What a pain.

I wasn't really into eating yesterday, I forced myself to eat lunch which never happens. Hopefully getting back on track will help with my WI tomorrow. I drank over 100 oz. of water and got all my fruits and veggies in.

Well, I don't have much to say today, here is my menu:

B - Yogurt (1)

This is what I was busy working on at our cabin last week! I wish I had a before picture but I can't seem to find one. The back splash was red vinyl with red plastic counter tops.

Here is a picture of me on my last day of vacation. I don't know why I am posting this, I am in shock at how thin my face has gotten. My best friend has given me the new nickname "bean pole" I love it!!!

I took this picture after a couple beers Friday night, it is funny because I am usually the one making faces.

I'm Back, Bloated and Busy!

We got back to the cities early yesterday afternoon and it feels so weird. I want to thank everyone who wrote to me after the I-35W Bridge collapse last week, it means so much to know you all were thinking of me and my family. I found out about the collapse at about 6:40 on Wednesday and immediately tried to get a hold of Derek, all cellphone traffic was down and I could not reach him. From our house this is the easiest, most direct route to Minneapolis and we take this bridge daily to work and to the Metrodome for Twins games. I had spoken to Derek earlier that day and he had told me he was going to the Twins game with some of our friends and they would be picking him up around 6. I did the math about a hundred times. If they left my house at 6 they would be crossing the bridge around 6:15...needless to say I was scared sh*tless. I finally got a hold of one of the guys that went with him to the game around 8:30 to find out they had been running late ***THANK THE LORD***. My prayers and thoughts are with all the families broken up by this tragedy.

Okay, so my vacation was wonderful. I had a blast with Rosie and my sister at the cabin, although we worked a lot and didn't relax as much as I had hoped. I didn't do well on my eating, but I still fit into my new jeans so it wasn't horrible. Thursday through Saturday night we met up with the boys and went to WE fest (country music festival). It was so much fun, Sheryl Crow, Toby Keith, Gary Allen, Trace Adkins, Keith Urban, and so many more great performers... We walked a lot but I don't think it came close to making up for the fair type food we were subject to eating the entire weekend. I have been sick and bloated since we returned. Hopefully a couple days of being OP will get me feeling normal again.

I will update more as I have time today. I am going to try to catch up with everyone, I missed you all so much.
